Adopting from Madagascar
We know it is going to happen and we thank you in advance! You are going to fall in love with one of our doggies and would love to take him or her with you. The truth is that we can arrange that! We are experts as we have exported (and imported) hundreds of animals. We know which buttons to press and where to hand in all the government required forms, in triplicate. It is also much cheaper than you probably expect!
The requirements for the USA are:
1. Complete vaccine (if not up to date) : 72.000Ar or about $25
2. Identification by microchip : 282.700Ar or about $90
3. Export permit : 280.000Ar or about $90
4. IATA pet carrier for Medium Dog: from 840.000At to 1.364.000Ar depending of the size. (Between $270-$420. But nothing prevents you from bringing one with you!)
There are no direct flights between Madagascar and the USA. This means that we have to respect the requirements of the country of transit.
We have literally imported and exported hundreds of pets, and the cheapest, easiest and most practical way is to fly via Paris. This is because the animal is registered as luggage, and only overweight fees are charged.
If transiting via Paris
- For transit less than 6 hours : no special requirement
- For transit more than 6 hours : Rabies test : 799.000Ar (or about $260) is required. ( This is a compulsory test when introducing a pet into Europe or in the case of transit via an EEC country. These tests requires three months to ensure that the vaccine was effective.)
